about

Trailblazing afro-fusion artist Tim Lyre returns with an incendiary UK Garage remix of lead single ‘MASTA’ featuring British rapper Jords, put together by fast-rising Bristol-based producer Joe Sonar.

The remix is a sure-fire dancefloor anthem, amplifying the infectious energy of the dancehall and amapiano-infused original, while showcasing Joe Sonar (previously known as ‘KREED’) as one to watch in the UK Garage scene this year.

'MASTA’ is the title track from Tim Lyre's acclaimed EP, heralded as one of the standout Afro-fusion projects in 2023, which dropped in November and has garnered widespread acclaim from industry tastemakers such as BBC 1Xtra, Notion, Complex UK, Wonderland, GRM Daily, Mixtape Madness and Wetalksound.

Tim commented on the remix: “Senpai na masta, but this one na banger. Shout out to Joe Sonar, special one for real”.

JOE SONAR represents a brand new project from Bristol based artist and music producer Joe Baker. Formerly known as KREED, Joe’s sonics have taken the UK sound system music scene by storm in recent years, resulting in collaborations with artists such as Gardna, Eva Lazarus, Rider Shafique, Catching Cairo, Killa P and many more. Alongside performances across staple UK festivals such as Glastonbury and Boomtown, Joe’s work as KREED also received heavy rotation on BBC Radio 1 & 1xtra, Rinse FM, Reprezent and KISS Fresh.

Moving into 2024 with a fresh alias, the JOE SONAR soundscape explores the depths of UK Bass music, whilst taking influence from across a wide scope of styles such as Neo Soul, Afrobeats, Psychedelia and Experimental styles from across the globe. With solid foundations of heavy low end frequencies coloured by cinematic melodies and intricate e!ects, the sound waves of JOE SONAR are set to reach new and exciting places this year.

lyrics

(Verse 1 - Tim Lyre)
Nuffa dem a call me Senpai
Cause they gotta respect me

Na that kind of tin wey go vex me

Woah
They can’t do it like me, mo n gapa
mo ti so tele, me I no send dia papa
All of dia pikni dem or dia mama
So what you want from a nigga now
(Hook - Tim Lyre)
Hold on
Senpai na Masta
Tell dem
So they wanna play with the Masta
Well then
Why you over there
You should come around here
you go learn why they call me the Masta Right now I fi tell dem
Senpai na Masta
Tell dem
So they wanna play with a monster
Well then
Why you over there
You should come around here
you go learn why they call me the Masta
(Verse 2 - Tim Lyre)
where you still dey learn work
Me I be your Masta
if you wanna catch
You gon need to run faster
Wonder why you call on money
No answer
Better make you hustle
sapa na bastard
Kele wan hide
but the gbedu don cast am
E dey shake, e dey move
She dey bounce am
Came in with another man
But she told me I’m the man
If her bobo no go gree
Dey go bounce am
Oloun
People wicked but me wicked-er
Wickedest
them no go ever fit to come around here to test me Make dey gather combine,
no go fit to best me
make I tell you for free
I’m the illest since Majek Fashek beg the rain come down Dripping a fi flood up your whole compound Beg the paramedic dem all come round
It’s fire on the mountain, fire on the ground
It’s burning
(Bridge - Tim Lyre)
And now that the fire
Is burning
don’t know what you gonna do
no clue
cause now that the fire
Is burning
Don’t know where to run to
(Verse 3 - Jords)
Big papa real don dada
Big man I end passa but I ain’t on passa
Island boy like callalloo red snapper
Push it in slow mek her st st stamma
Call me the master bun an infarmah
Grew up on vybz kartel mavada

Everyday blessed like buju
The door go bu-doof the ting goes badoom
(Outro - Tim Lyre)
And now that the fire
Is burning
don’t know what you gonna do
no clue
cause now that the fire
Is burning
Don’t know where to run to
Where you still dey learn work
Me I be your Masta
