about

Trailblazing Nigerian singer-songwriter Tim Lyre presents melancholic and yearnful new afrobeats single ‘Confess’, arguably his most accomplished work to date.

A sultry saxophone solo, layered over sombre electronic pads, usher you into the turmoil of Tim’s mind as he contemplates what he has to confess, somewhat like the intro before an icon walks onto the stage for a life-changing performance.

Produced by Mytee Menko, ‘Confess’ is the first single off the flourishing multi-instrumentalist, artist and producer’s forthcoming EP, ‘Masta’, set to be released in early 2023, an afrobeats masterpiece showcasing his versatility and top tier wordplay.

‘Confess’ closely follows the success of ‘Feel Something’, a fan-favourite on Show Dem Camp’s Palm Wine Music Vol. 3, and the deluxe version of his critically acclaimed debut album Worry < which garnered over 3m streams and support from the likes of BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 1Xtra, Cool FM, Bandcamp (Album of the Week), Notion Magazine, Okay Africa, Breakroom Africa, Pan African Music, Bounce Radio, iMullar and Worldwide FM.

Built on a mid-tempo, laid-back beat and backed by heavy saxophone chords, the track sees Tim bare his intentions and confront reality with candor, while eking out head-bopping melodies accompanied by deep-cutting lyrics. “Confess is a song about honesty. The key is to be real with yourself and others.” - Tim Lyre

lyrics

So many things that I wanna confess
I just need a way to get it off my chest
Tell me are you really gonna put me first
Or will you come first
Even if na love wey I wanna confess
i can feel a trouble inna me conscience
tell me are you really gonna put me first

baby na me be the first
and the last
of my kind
I know my children will be next in line
I never born them but I know say they go ball
The ororo go dey shine, e go leak, e go pour
don’t want you thinking that it’s just by luck
me know say anything you do dem go talk
and when they see you going up to the top
Many people get to praying on your downfall

so many things that I wanna confess
I just need a way to get it off my chest
Tell me are you really gonna put me first
Or will you come first
Even if na love wey I wanna confess
i can feel a trouble inna me conscience
tell me are you really gonna put me first

when you all alone in your bed at night
wanna know the things that you’re dreaming of
Will they come true at the break of dawn
Tell me who’s there when you wake up
Iyen early momo when I spark my J
you go dey with me when I smoke it in bed
when my eye red
will you give me life
never take it instead

baby na me be the first
and the last
