about

Tipped by Tidal and Audiomack this year as one to watch, multi-instrumentalist, lyricist and genre bending producer Tim Lyre is set to release ‘Chasing Wind’; a joyous neo-soul dutty dancehall tune, on Friday June 23rd, 2023.

With imagery and wordplay inspired by the Greek myth of Hermes, Chasing Wind is soothing like the waves on a Jamaican beach on a summer evening with a jazz band playing in the distance. With hints of pop and an unexpected captivating transition into dancehall, the vocal delivery and lyrics convey heartfelt emotions, revealing the man behind the artist. A note of reassurance to his mother that he’s going to be alright and a call for her and by extension, every parent or loved one out there, to trust in the winds of fate and worry less.

In Tim Lyre’s words: “If you’re certain it’s worth it then don’t quit. This song is to remind you to never give up.”

Chasing Wind is the second single from Tim Lyre’s next project ‘Masta’ and a follow up to his hit single Confess which garnered over 500k audio streams and 200k streams on the cinematic video directed by Buhari. Premiered on TRACE Africa, with rotations on MTV Base, Soundcity, Cool FM, The Beat and Hit #97 on Spotify Nigeria viral charts.

This single will be ushered in with a splash in London at the Outer South launch party on release day the 23rd June at Tala Peckham (Further details below).

Tim Lyre’s recent repertoire includes collaborations with Suté Iwar (SPACE COWBOY) and MOJO AF & Ronehi (RASTAMAN DREADS) to name a few. His rapid ascent has seen Tidal describe him as a rising artist to watch in 2023, while Audiomack spotlighted him as one of Africa’s artists to watch in April 2023.

Produced by Tim, mixed and mastered by Sam Harper, (Wizkid, NSG, Tion Wayne) ‘Chasing Wind’ comes out sounding clear as glass, with rhythms subtle but evident like ripples of water when the bass hits hard.

This song is an honest and solemn reminder, as Tim says, “If you’re certain it’s worth it then don’t quit…”The Lyrical and genre bending maestro uses this single to remind you to never give-up and as a letter to his mother assuring her that everything is ok because the journey he is on is worth fighting for. ‘Chasing Wind’ will be launched on June 23rd in London at Tola Peckham.

lyrics

And after all you did
It feels like chasing wind
you still don’t have the bills
To pay for your sins
And back when it started
you thought that it would be
a dream reality
but nothing’s ever what it seems
Sometimes life come around
And it hit you from both sides
One minute you’re up
then you’re down in no time
takes a lot for me to get back to my right mind
someone tell the devil he can never control mine
Melodies a come from Jah
And I stay connected no matter how far
No man fi ever interrupt the divine
Pour the oil upon me and make me forehead shine like Woah
I hope my mama knows that I’ll be alright
Cause every day I see the worry in her eyes
But when I make it to the highest height
I hope the moment will be frozen in time
So they can all see your boy done did it
and there can never be another like he
Been manifesting what she praying for me
Enemies all try fashion different weapons
Dem no fi ever prosper
Nuffa dem a know say Timmy Turnup afi mashup d place in seconds
Dem no fit ever stop am
This a healing music
I’m a musical doctor
medicate your soul
While the riddim is proper
Highly recommended fi your sons and daughters
Ain’t nobody make ‘em feel this way since Chaka
Deep inna the chakra
yuh
many things wey man dey see, we no fit talk am finish
but we still gonna keep it movin with enough confidence

Did it the most
Did it the best
Did it with too much finesse
So you can see I’m not the type that you could try to finesse
Oh no
And if you got a problem
I’ll be with my dargs dem
you might not last a day inna the place we come from
you better keep running and maybe you’ll get to where you wanna go too
It’s what they told you
And after all you did
It feels like chasing wind
you still don’t have the bills
To pay for your sins
And back when it started
you thought that it would be
a dream reality
but nothing’s ever what it seems
