about

Afro-fusion act Tim Lyre shares the second single ahead of his forthcoming debut album Worry< (‘worry less’).

'Highlife' is a groovy mid-tempo track that sets the mood for waist-whining fests and celebrations. Over production that draws influences from Fela Kuti’s Afrobeat, the new single features Nigerian alternative music forerunners Prettyboy D-O and Lady Donli, echoing sentiments of their ruthless hustling spirit backed by a call for youths to secure the bag. An instant earworm for every music lover.

'Highlife' is coming after a successful release of ‘Real’ which received massive support across Africa and in the UK, followed by a shuffling US house remix by South African house DJ Oscar Mbo, the two-time nominee for Best Dance Album at the South African Music Awards.

Speaking on the record, Tim says "Highlife is a celebration song. As people we constantly strive for our goals but every now and then, we deserve to celebrate and be celebrated. This song is the soundtrack for all those celebrations. Got the perfect voices for the message too in PrettyboyDO and Lady Donli. This one is epic."

Building a growing fanbase in Nigeria, Ghana and South Africa, Tim Lyre has been an integral part of the alté renaissance and has consistently churned out top tier alternative Afro-influenced music, including the Senpai EP that featured MOJO, PrettyboyDO & AYLØ, which was recently featured in Tems’ Africa Month playlist on Apple Music. Tim has racked up millions of streams across digital platforms, having worked with the likes of Fasina, July Drama and Minz.
